Former Mayor David Dinkins Honored with Living Legend Award at Apollo Theater

Former Mayor David Dinkins has been recognized for his impact on politics and New York City.

Dinkins was honored with the Living Legend Award at the Apollo Theater Wednesday night.

The special recognition comes during the annual National Black Caucus' Legislative Conference.

The theme of Wednesday's event was “Celebrate Harlem’s Impact on Black Political Power in America.”

"Quite a tribute although I have to confess that everybody here deserves such an award and I see myself as standing in for them," Mayor Dinkins said.

The caucus says it recognized Dinkins for the "significant contributions he makes for the betterment of society, and his lifelong service to improve the lives of African Americans."
