Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins and his wife Joyce return to their former home in Harlem of more than 25 years at Riverton Square for the dedication of a new community center bearing their names.

The Dinkins lived at the complex throughout his political rise right up until they moved into Gracie Mansion. The community center will be called “The Honorable David N. & Joyce Dinkins Riverton Center."

Riverton was and still is the heart and soul of Harlem, a place where working families can live affordably in New York City," Dinkins said. "Joyce and I and our children loved the energy and the close-knit camaraderie that Riverton is still famous for. I’m very pleased with all the improvements to its beautiful grounds, and the investment being made in the new community center—and I’m confident that Riverton will remain a vibrant Harlem enclave long into the future.”

Former Harlem Congressman Charles Rangel and local elected officials spoke at the event. The new community center will be offering programming for kids and seniors in the complex through Harlem Grown and JASA.
